FAQ's
In any new and developing industry, there’s always a lot of confusion about new terminology. In cannabis, for example, people argue over whether we should call a certain variety of cannabis a strain, a cultivar, or a varietal.
We want to make sure that our industry gets this terminology right. Whether you want to call yourself a Cannabis Coach, a Cannabis Wellness Coach, or a Cannabis and Health Coach, make sure the following definition applies.
Cannabis Coach: A well-trained, educated, experienced and certified health coach who specializes in guiding clients around cannabis.
We’ve seen people calling themselves “cannabis coaches” who are not trained in coaching, misinformed about cannabis, and don’t have the experience necessary to effectively guide clients around this dynamic plant medicine.
We’ve been training Cannabis Coaches since 2018 and have worked with over 180 students to date. One of our program’s founders was a pioneer in this field and became the first international Cannabis Health Coach and Educator, working with clients and students from around the world.
Because we’ve been there, and have experience with students from all walks of life, we know what you need to know. We know what you’ll come up against when you’re training, building your business, and working with clients. We know what it takes to successfully build this business in a way that’s ethical, legal, and fulfilling. If we can do this, and our former students can do this, so can you.
Your training as a Certified Cannabis and Health Coach prepares you for lots of different career options in this growing industry. Not only are you given a world-class comprehensive education on cannabis and health, you also develop a coaching skill set that makes you a better leader, boss, employee or entrepreneur.
Former students have gone on to become authors, lead retreats, build workshop-based businesses, support clients 1:1 and in groups, launch complementary CBD businesses, create online programs, and more. If you’ve got a unique vision about how you’d like to use this work to make an impact, we’re here to support it.
We can’t speak to what other “cannabis coaches” do when they work with clients.
Our coaches are trained to guide and educate their clients and students around cannabis in a way that brings balance back to the endocannabinoid system. They use our signature method that combines:
- Cannabis education that focuses on healthy cannabis use and client care
- Natural health and wellness practices that are designed to holistically improve the health of the endocannabinoid system (and bring balance back into the body)
- Effective coaching skills to help clients build new habits, overcome resistance, and reach their health goals
Absolutely. Our mission with this program is to give you so much more than information. We’re here to get you in the business of helping people with cannabis. Our goal is that by the time you leave, you have the confidence and skills to be able to attract clients into your programs and guide them well when they’re with you.
With our support, many students (like the ones below) start enrolling paying clients while they’re still in the program.
“My first paying client starts tomorrow!” - Gina
“Now I can celebrate my first paid client that isn't a friend or relative!” - Darlene
“I had my first Discovery Call at 1 today and now have my first paying client!” - Amy
“Woohoo, I just got another paying client!” - Stephanie
"I have completed all the training modules and homework actions. I am working with 4 clients (two starting next monday). I am going to celebrate like crazy today! This accomplishment is especially meaningful to me because of all the health issues and home issues that have popped up during the program. Thanks Corinne and Niki and all the Tribe for all your support throughout the program." - Kevin
According to the department of labor in the US, The average Certified Health Coach salary is estimated to be in the range of $50,000–$75,000, with the top 10% of Health Coaches earning $100K and above. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that “Coach practitioners reported an average annual income from coaching of about $61,900.”
Statistics aside, it takes time to build a business and gain the experience to confidently support others with this plant medicine. Cannabis and Health Coaching isn’t a get rich quick scheme, but it can be a sustainable business that allows you to do work that you love while making a difference. Some coaches grow their practices quickly and others take their time. Just know that there’s no right way to build a business as long as it feels right to you.
We’ve created a program that provides many pathways to profitability. You’ll have the tools to start a 1:1 coaching practice, lead workshops and retreats, create online courses, write about cannabis online or in print, or to do consulting for clients, dispensaries, or doctors. Many new coaches use a combination of these practices to build their business.
Ultimately, the type of business you create is up to you, but no matter what you decide to do, we’ll help you plan and achieve the business goals you set for yourself in the program.
Our program is an approved provider for CE credit by the National Board of Health and Wellness Coaching.
We chose the CE approval designation so we could offer a completely on-demand program to our students that was flexible and accessible.
From the National Board of Health and Wellness Coaching - "Training program accreditation standards and processes require that the field concerned be of a given level of maturity. Given the relatively nascent and rapidly evolving nature of the field of health & wellness coaching, the NBHWC has established the first national standards for the approval of health & wellness coach training programs. This is a developmental step toward eventual program accreditation in the health & wellness coaching profession."
We’re also members of professional and advocacy organizations like the National Cannabis Industry Association, the Marijuana Policy Project, and Americans for Safe Access.
Yes. If you feel called to be a pioneer in your state or nation, you’re welcome to join us. Some former students have started businesses coaching people in other states, even though they lived in prohibition states. Others have focused on working with the widely accessible cannabinoids like CBD and CBG.
While it’s not illegal to give guidance or educate in legal states, it can put you into ethical and legal dilemmas if you aren’t cautious and intentional about what services you provide and how you provide them.
No. We provide training and certification to people from all around the world. Cannabis is a plant that can help on a global scale, and we’re here to support anyone who feels called to do this work.
Not at all. We’ve designed our curriculum so that it’s possible to enter as a beginner, but still interesting if you’re an expert. If you have limited (or no) experience with cannabis, we’ll make sure you learn everything you need to know, and nothing you don’t.
We won’t use any terminology without explaining it, and you’ll get hands on practice talking about cannabis until you’re so comfortable with it it’ll be like saying “pass the salt”.
I came into this program not knowing anything. High school was maybe my last real experience. I knew there was a lot more to it and knew the industry was moving in an interesting direction. I didn’t know if I wanted to be a health coach, I just knew this was going to be the program that had the most information.I have so much more confidence with the information and sharing it with others. - Maggie
I am pretty much an open book, as I am very new to cannabis. I am a baby boomer who believed the Reefer Madness nonsense I was taught so this information is so freeing for me. I am not happy to have been lied to, but finally all this great and helpful information is being released and is helping so many people. -Terri
We’ve had many students who have considered themselves experts who tell us the experience was very educational.
“I learned so much. I already thought I knew so much, and I learned so much.” - Joy
I just learned more about the plant in a 16 minute video than I did budtending for 2 years! - Thinacha
We also go beyond information and teach you how to facilitate transformation. You’ll learn the skills to apply what you already know to help people get healthier without overwhelming them. We’ve had students in the program who were engineers, rocket scientists and PhD’s who found the program to be educationally fulfilling.
Our course was designed to be taken 100% online. Unlike many training programs that are scrambling to move their offerings to the web due to the coronavirus, our program was born on the internet and that’s what it was made for.
We know the ins and outs of online learning and know exactly what an online program needs to be so that you can find success in it. We built in accountability, support, and community (that word again), so even though the program is entirely virtual, it doesn’t feel robotic.
With accountability and community support built into the program, we know you can do this. We keep the vibe up, the work interesting, and the fun levels high. This isn’t the kind of program you have to drag yourself to. You may even want to Netflix-style binge your lessons. We won’t judge.
Goodness no. We would never drown you in TMI. You’ll go through this program week by week. We’ve curated the content so it shows up right when you need it. This will help keep you on track and on pace to finish the program and complete the certification requirements.
In order to gain your certification within the 6 month time frame, expect to spend 4-6 hours a week on the program. You have 12 months to complete the program, so if you need more time, you’ve got it.
If, on the other hand, you really want to get started, open your coaching practice and start taking paying clients ASAP, you may spend anywhere from 10-30 hours studying and building your business.
Think you’re too busy? Think again. You’ll get guidance in the Success Primer Series that will allow you to do more with your time than you ever imagined possible.
“I had no idea how I was going to fit all of this in with a full time job that took up 3/4 of my life. But I learned that you can do a lot in a small amount of time. With just a little bit of time each week, it’s amazing what you can do. And now I can share that with my clients when they’re feeling overwhelmed.” - Heather
For.ev.er. This program is a professional resource for you. You keep it forever so you can go back and grab handouts, look things up, or redo parts of the program when you need a refresher. Not only do you get to keep your program, but you’ll also get any new updates to the program. You’ll never have to enroll again to get the most up-to-date information.
Yes. We’ve had several students who didn’t personally use cannabis, but saw the benefits others were experiencing, did the research, and felt called to do this work. If you’re a health and wellness professional, your clients may already be talking to you about CBD or asking you about cannabis.
If you feel called to support other people with this medicine, but don’t feel called to use it yourself, we’re here to help you understand what your clients are going through, what they may need help with, and how to guide them through the process.
If you’re already a yoga teacher, culinary nutritionist, health coach, massage therapist, or other health and wellness professional, you’re perfectly positioned to start helping others with cannabis.
Even if your clients and students aren’t asking about cannabis (yet) they will likely be banging down your door as soon as you are ready to add cannabis guidance to your offerings.
With the big shift that occurred during coronavirus away from in-person classes and hands-on health, you’ll have a way to support your current clients virtually or over the phone and a new business model to fold into your offerings to make sure you stay both in service and in business during this transition.
My second session with my new client went SO well! She is killing it so far and loves everything about the program. The difference between my enthusiasm and energy when I’m just health coaching vs cannabis coaching is palpable and I feel like I’m finally stepping into my power as a coach.” - Ana Sofia

In the end, only you know the answer to this question. We don’t want you to choose our program because it’s the best, but because it’s the best for you. CCI students chose us over other training programs because the training we provide and the life they want to create are in alignment.
“2 years ago, I had this realization that I needed to change my life. I was crying in the bathroom at work and I realized I wanted to help people with cannabis, but I didn’t know what that was going to look like. So I started blogging and built some of that. I budtended for awhile but that didn’t fit the bill. But now through coaching, I feel like I’m stepping into that vision for my life that I really wanted when I was crying in the bathroom.” - Heather
“These past few years I’ve been looking to make a career transition. I’ve owned my business for years, but bwasn’t doing something I was passionate about. I knew I needed to be doing something that was using my gifts; something that would impact people and change the world. Cannabis had impacted my life in such a positive way, and I knew I wanted to enter the cannabis industry, in some way that would help people. When this came up - and there have been a lot of things I considered doing - but I was like ‘I know what path I’m taking’. I made the decision on the spot, and I’ve never done that. But it was just such a good fit for everything I’m passionate about.” - Linnea
